ALAND ISLANDS
Officially adopted 7 April 1954 for use on land only. The adoption of the Swedish flag charged with an additional red cross reflects the fact that the population of the islands is predominantly of Swedish origin. The colours are those of the arms of the Aland Islands (golden stag in blue field) and the arms of Finland (golden lion in red field).
